Lessons Learned: Epic Training
The UNC Health Care System is a not-for-profit integrated health care system, owned by the State of North Carolina and based in Chapel Hill. UNC Health Care embarked on a journey to implement Epic as their enterprise information system with the goal of having “one patient ID, one problem list, one medication list, and one bill” across the entire health care system. Because of this, the training of users was extremely critical for the success of the implementation and adoption of the new system. Training included nearly 50,000 individual “seatings” for classroom instruction for two big go-lives. UNC Health Care utilized approximately 120 credentialed trainers to accomplish this task, though less than ten of these trainers came from within UNC Health Care.
